May the Biggest Spammer Win

Most reasonable people would agree that it doesn't make sense that the companies who own or take part in a network of interlinked websites should rank higher than those who don't. And why should the websites that have people "writing" boatloads of blog comments outrank their competitors who have no desire to spam others' blogs? If you're commenting because you'll possibly get some link value rather than because you feel the need to add to the conversation, it adds unnecessary clutter and should be counted as spam by the search engines (in my opinion). I wouldn't be surprised if 90% of blog and forum comments fall into that category, as do most articles submitted to article dírectories.

Another easy way to get website links is through directory submissions. Although this method doesn't quite give good quality SEO links, it's a good place to start if you're new to search engine optimization link building.

There are two ways to submít your site to directories. You can use a directory submission service that automatically sends your site to over 100 directories, or you can manually submit the site yourself. Doing it automatically saves you a lot of time; while manual submission allows you to easily send your site to major directories (the more popular directories usually don't accept automatic submissions).

Google might downrank content farms

Websites with low quality content that has been created to get clicks for AdSense ads might have a hard time in the coming months:

"As pure webspam has decreased over time, attention has shifted instead to content farms, which are sites with shallow or low-quality content.

We hear the feedback from the web loud and clear: people are asking for even stronger action on content farms and sites that consist primarily of spammy or low-quality content."

If your websites mainly exist to display Google AdSense then your site might lose its rankings on Google. Google makes it clear that running AdSense ads won't help the sites to remain in the index:

"One misconception that we've seen in the last few weeks is the idea that Google doesn't take as strong action on spammy content in our index if those sites are serving Google ads. To be crystal clear:

* Google absolutely takes action on sites that violate our quality guidelines regardless of whether they have ads powered by Google;
* Displaying Google ads does not help a site's rankings in Google; and
* Buying Google ads does not increase a site's rankings in Google's search results."

1. Bringing link exchanges to you, instead of surfing the web to find them, is smart webmastering. This is done by building backlinks to your site's link swap web page, in order to get both organic search and direct traffic. The benefit is to reduce the amount of time spent on searching for Link Exchanges. Also, there is less time spent on initial link swap emails that do not get a response. Possible backlink title phrases:

Tip. When building backlinks, smart webmasters add more hyperlinks to their link exchange web page on the pages within the same site.

2. Finding high quality relevant websites should be easy. [see Thy SEO Checklist Technique #4.1] The Google Toolbar PageRank and a link:FutureBacklinkURL at Yahoo search, well help determine webpage quality. If you have never used Google's Toolbar, it's a cool tool and can be turned off and on from the View > Toolbars menu in Windows Internet Explorer.
Tip A. Other site's that offer an online link exchange in .php form look like time-savers, on the surface. I find that around 25% of these sites don't seem to work when clicking "submit." In any case, one way to find these is to search at Google: inurl:php "add link" keyword. I keep track of .php sites that do not work when submitting. This helps me avoid working with the same site in the future.
Tip B. I minimize the act of soliciting link swaps through email. This reduces any possibility of SPAM complaints.
